Yellow-Bellied
Toad lives in various types of water bodies, including lakes, ponds,
swamps, rivers and stream pools (sometimes streams with swift current)
and springs. It occurs even in highly polluted wetlands, even waters
with high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and salts. Toad does not
come out of water, warms in the sun only showing the head, quickly diving
in danger.
Widely distributed in the country (up to 1400 m above sea-level).
Yellow-Bellied Toad is a small frog. Tympanic membrane
absent. Pupil of the eye triangular. No male resonators. Skin tuberculate.
Dorsal tubercles acute and high. Ventral tubercles small and scarce
in number. Dorsal surface dark-olive, with small dark spots. Belly yellow,
sometimes orange, with large dark spots.The inner surface of the leg
is covered with bright spots which are large and fused on the inner
surface of the thigh.
Yellow-Bellied Toad reaches a length of 4 - 6 cm.
When spawning, the clutch consists of 45 -100 eggs deposited in portions.
In contrast to the Fire-Bellied Toad it eats mainly
larvae, insects etc.
